Best TH4 Bases with Links for COC Clash of Clans 2026

Quick Summary

Four Town Hall 4 farming layouts that keep dark-free loot behind walls, plus what actually matters when you place buildings at TH4 and how to pick between them.

At Town Hall 4 you want a farming layout: storages pulled into the core, the Mortar dead centre, and the Town Hall parked outside or on the edge so raiders take the free shield win instead of your elixir. All four layouts below do that. If you just want one, take Farming Base #01 — it's the most balanced against the Giant-Wall Breaker and Barch pushes you'll actually face in Bronze and Silver.

What actually matters in a TH4 layout

TH4 defences are thin, so layout does more work than levels here. Four things decide whether you keep your loot:

  • Mortar in the middle. It's your only splash defence and the single reason mass Barbarians and Archers fail. If it sits on an edge, half the base is uncovered and a spam attack walks through.
  • Storages inside walls, spread out. Don't cluster all your gold and elixir in one compartment — one Wall Breaker pair shouldn't open every storage at once. Split them so an attacker has to commit to two or three breaches.
  • Town Hall outside or in a sacrificial pocket. Most attackers at this level just want the shield and the trophies. Give them the Town Hall, keep the resources. If you're pushing trophies instead, do the reverse and centralise it.
  • Air Defence covered. Balloons show up at TH4. Your Air Defence should sit inside walls with Archer Towers near it, not on the perimeter where a couple of Giants tank it down.

Which TH4 base should you use?

Layout Best against Pick it if
Farming Base #01 Giants + Wall Breakers, mixed ground You want one all-round base and don't want to think about it
Farming Base #02 Barbarian/Archer spam You keep losing loot to cheap mass-troop raids
Farming Base #03 One-side ground pushes You're saving for a big upgrade and need elixir protected above all
Farming Base #04 Balloons and early air You're seeing air attacks and want the Air Defence properly buried

Four TH4 farming base layouts

Farming Base #01 — best all-round vs Giants and Wall Breakers

Compartmented core with the Mortar centred and storages split across separate cells, so Wall Breakers only ever open one pocket at a time. Giants funnel around the outer buildings and stall in Mortar range before they reach anything valuable.

Farming Base #02 — best against Barbarian and Archer spam

Tight, symmetrical ring that keeps every wall segment inside Mortar coverage. Mass Barbarians dropped on any side get clumped by the wall line and wiped before they chew through, and Archers outside the wall can't out-range the defences onto the storages.

Farming Base #03 — best for protecting elixir on one-side pushes

Deeper core with resource buildings layered behind two wall rings, so an attacker who commits to a single side still has to fight through a second compartment. Good when you're banking for a Laboratory or Barracks upgrade and can afford to hand over the Town Hall.

Farming Base #04 — best against Balloons and early air attacks

Air Defence sits deep in the core with Archer Towers flanking it rather than on the outside. Balloons dropped on a corner have to cross several rings of buildings while under fire, and ground troops can't peel the Air Defence off first.

Common TH4 layout mistakes

  • Building a single square of walls around everything. One compartment means one Wall Breaker charge exposes the whole base. Use internal walls to split the core even if the sections are small.
  • Leaving gaps troops can walk through. Check every wall junction after you rearrange. A one-tile gap turns your compartments into a hallway.
  • Hugging buildings tight against the wall. Leave a tile where you can so attackers can't spawn troops right on top of the wall and skip the pathing.
  • Wasting Builder Huts. Push them to the four corners. They soak up a troop or two and cost attackers time on the three-star clock.
  • Using a war base at TH4. There's no reason to. Your Clan Castle troops and defences aren't deep enough to hold a real war attack, so optimise for farming and let the Town Hall go.

Farming base vs trophy base at TH4

Run the farming setup. Trophies at TH4 gain you nothing you can't get back in a session of raiding, while losing a full storage sets back an upgrade by hours of collecting. Put the Town Hall outside the walls, let people three-star you for the shield, and keep the resources. The only time to centralise the Town Hall is if you've deliberately stopped upgrading to push trophies — and at TH4 that's rarely worth doing.

When to move on from these layouts

Rebuild when you unlock new defence slots. Each new Cannon, Archer Tower or wall segment changes the shape of your compartments, and a base with a defence sitting awkwardly outside the wall is worse than a base designed around what you actually have. Re-copy one of the layouts above after each round of new buildings rather than trying to patch the old shape.
