What is the best TH16 base?

What's new at TH16
- Town Hall 16 starts merging defences. You get two Ricochet Cannons and two Multi-Archer Towers, each made by combining two existing defences into one stronger building.
- Attackers unlock the Thrower (a long-range Elixir troop), the Ruin Witch, the Troop Launcher siege machine and the Totem Spell.
What TH16 bases defend against
- Hero-and-pet pushes. The Ricochet Cannon hits a ground hero and then the pet behind it, and the Multi-Archer Tower can shoot past a tank to the troops it is protecting.
- Throwers hitting defences from behind walls, out of reach of short-range defences.
- Lava Hound air attacks and the pups they release, which the Multi-Archer Tower handles well.
Common TH16 base mistakes
- Merging defences and leaving the freed space empty, which opens a straight path to the core.
- Putting the merged defences next to each other, so one spell combination covers them all.
- Expecting the Ricochet Cannon to stop every hero. Air pets and a dormant Phoenix are out of its reach.

Choosing a TH16 base
Which layout you want depends on what you are protecting. A war base is built to stop three stars from an attacker who scouted you first. A trophy base defends while you are offline against players skipping through opponents. A farming base gives up the Town Hall to keep the storages safe, because loot matters more than trophies while you are upgrading. A hybrid does both jobs a little worse than either, and it is often the right choice while you cannot afford to lose either one. Attackers at this level bring heroes with equipment, siege machines and enough spells to take out any single defence, and they plan around what they scout. A base here holds up by spreading its strength, not by guarding one strong point.
