What is the best TH5 base?

What's new at TH5
- Town Hall 5 adds the Wizard Tower, a splash defence that punishes groups of troops, and Air Bombs for massed air units.
- The Spell Factory opens, and attackers get the Lightning Spell and Wizards.
What TH5 bases defend against
- Lightning Spells aimed at an Air Defense to clear the way for Balloons.
- Massed Archers and Wizards, which the Wizard Tower's splash breaks up.
Common TH5 base mistakes
- The Wizard Tower on the outside, where ranged troops can pick it off from beyond the walls.
- Air Bombs far from the defences air troops will target, so Balloons never fly over them.

Choosing a TH5 base
Which layout you want depends on what you are protecting. A war base is built to stop three stars from an attacker who scouted you first. A trophy base defends while you are offline against players skipping through opponents. A farming base gives up the Town Hall to keep the storages safe, because loot matters more than trophies while you are upgrading. A hybrid does both jobs a little worse than either, and it is often the right choice while you cannot afford to lose either one. At this level most attacks are simple ground armies of Giants, Barbarians, Archers and a few Wall Breakers, so intact walls and well-placed splash defences do most of the work. You will outgrow any design here quickly, so do not spend long perfecting one.
