What's new at TH9
- Town Hall 9 adds two X-Bows, long-range defences you can set to hit ground troops only or ground and air.
- Attackers unlock the Witch, the Lava Hound, the Baby Dragon, the Jump, Freeze, Haste and Skeleton Spells, and the Minion Prince.
What TH9 bases defend against
- Lava Hounds tanking the Air Defenses for a wave of Balloons behind them.
- Witches whose skeletons swarm the defences while the heroes push.
- Jump Spells that skip the walls into the core.
Common TH9 base mistakes
- X-Bows on ground-only mode when the base mostly faces air attacks.

Choosing a TH9 base
Which layout you want depends on what you are protecting. A war base is built to stop three stars from an attacker who scouted you first. A trophy base defends while you are offline against players skipping through opponents. A farming base gives up the Town Hall to keep the storages safe, because loot matters more than trophies while you are upgrading. A hybrid does both jobs a little worse than either, and it is often the right choice while you cannot afford to lose either one. This is where the common attack strategies start. Attackers bring Hog Riders, then Lava Hounds and Bowlers as they level, along with a full Clan Castle and heroes, so the compartments matter more than the level of any one defence.
