Choosing a TH5 base

Which layout you want depends on what you are protecting. A war base is built to deny three stars to an attacker who scouted you first. A trophy base defends while you are offline against people skipping through a list. A farming base gives up the Town Hall to keep the storages, because loot matters more than the ladder while you are upgrading. A hybrid does both jobs slightly worse than either and is usually the right answer while you cannot afford to lose either one. At this level most attacks are still basic ground armies - giants, barbarians, archers and a few wall breakers - so intact walls and one or two well-placed splash defences do most of the work. Do not over-invest in a design here; you will outgrow it in weeks.

About Town Hall 5

• Town Hall 5 unlocks Wizard Tower, Healing Spell, so layouts here have to find room for them without opening up the core.
• Army camps hold 135 housing space at this level, which is what an attacker can bring against these bases.
